Brazilian Cotton Export Reaches New Record

According to weekly analysis data from the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economy (Imea), Brazilian cotton lint exports continue to break records. In February 2025, Brazil shipped 274.63 thousand tons of fiber, an increase of 6.37% compared to the same month in 2024. This is the highest volume exported for February.

Mato Grosso, the country’s largest cotton producer, was responsible for 66.32% of Brazilian exports, with 182.14 thousand tons sent abroad in February. In the cumulative 2023/24 harvest, between August 2024 and February 2025, the state has already exported 1.18 million tons of lint. This figure represents an increase of 17.35% compared to the same period of the previous harvest, marking the highest volume recorded for this interval, according to Imea data.

Vietnam, China, and Pakistan are the main destinations for Mato Grosso’s cotton lint, accounting for 57.34% of the state’s exports. Vietnam leads the purchases with 22.02% of the total, followed by China (18.61%) and Pakistan (16.71%).

With the strong pace of exports, Brazil and Mato Grosso are expected to set new export records by the end of the 2023/24 harvest, consolidating the country as the world’s largest cotton exporter.
