Brazilian egg producer Granja Faria halts U.S. exports amid tariffs

Global Eggs’ Brazilian operation, Granja Faria, has suspended exports of eggs to the United States, a market that had been steadily growing for the company. “It’s unfeasible with this tariff,” said Ricardo Faria, owner of Global Eggs.
The group’s acquisition of U.S.-based Hillandale Farms allows it to partially offset the decline in Brazilian exports through higher margins. The original plan had been to maintain both operations, given the local demand. “We stopped sending eggs from here and raised the prices there,” Faria said.
The tariff push is expected to accelerate the company’s expansion of poultry farms in the U.S., with ongoing developments in Iowa and Ohio, while also strengthening its presence in Europe through the acquisition of Spain’s El Granjero.
The company’s U.S. headquarters is located in the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, which has more chickens than people — approximately seven thousand residents and some 20 million birds within Global Eggs’ American operations. With the acquisition of Hillandale, the U.S. now accounts for 60% of the group’s revenue, which exceeds R$15 billion.
In Brazil, the eggs previously destined for the U.S. are being redirected to domestic sales and other export markets, though not entirely. One of the largest export destinations remains Japan, where the Katayama brand ships six containers per week alone.
