Brazilian pork exports surge in 2025

The volume of Brazilian pork exports grew by around 72% between January and August 2025, according to an analysis released Thursday (18) by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at the University of São Paulo (USP) campus in Piracicaba (SP).
In January, 7,700 tonnes of pork were exported. By August, the figure had risen to 13,300 tonnes.
Among the main destinations, Chile and the Philippines stood out.
“The highlight was in July, when 14,500 tonnes of pork were shipped to Chile — double the January volume,” Cepea reported.

Destinations
In July and August, Chile became the second-largest destination for Brazilian pork, taking the position previously held by China.
The Philippines has remained the leading destination for Brazilian pork since February this year.
“The increase in shipments to Chile is linked to the country’s government recognizing, in April this year (and formalized in July), the state of Paraná (Brazil’s second-largest producer) as free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination and classical swine fever,” Cepea noted.
Prices
Live hog and pork prices have remained high since the end of the first half of 2025, with August quotations staying firm, contrary to the typical seasonal declines seen at this time of year.
According to Cepea, the independent market for live hogs was buoyed by strong demand, usually higher at the start of the month, which helped push prices upward.
“In the second half of August, demand remained strong, and prices did not fall as they normally do. As a result, monthly average prices for live hogs in nearly all regions monitored by Cepea increased compared with July,” Cepea said in Thursday’s report.
