Brazil imported US$4.28 billion worth of chemical crop protection products between January and May 2026, down 6.8% from the same period last year, according to the quarterly bulletin released by CropLife Brasil, the association representing companies in the crop protection, seed, biotechnology, and biological inputs sectors.
The figures are available through CropData, CropLife Brasil’s data portal. For the first time, the platform provides detailed information on formulated products and active ingredients, as well as domestic market sales data.
According to the report, one-third of total imports consisted of formulated products, which are ready for direct use by farmers. Imports in this category declined by US$246 million compared with the same period last year.
Imports of technical products used by manufacturers for local formulation also declined by US$48 million, while imports of raw materials fell by US$20 million.
In volume terms, Brazil imported 502,600 tonnes of crop protection products during the first five months of the year, a 6.5% year-on-year decrease.
“The data point to a chemical crop protection market undergoing adjustment, characterized by lower import values and volumes, declining average prices, and a greater share of generic products during the first five months of 2026,” CropLife Brasil said in a statement.
According to the association, the trend should be viewed in the context of tight profit margins for farmers and does not necessarily indicate a proportional decline in demand.
