Brazil’s largest fruit exporter, Agricola Famosa, creates company in UK

Agrícola Famosa, the country’s largest fruit exporter, created a new company in the United Kingdom, Melon&Co. The company aims to improve service to a market that already accounts for 35% of its exports. The UK accounted for 70% of the company’s revenue of BRL 720 million in 2020, and this should increase to BRL 850 million this year.
Currently, Melon&Co. already holds between 65% and 70% of the market share of melon and watermelon in the United Kingdom. It provides direct sales to supermarkets and other points of sale that were previously supplied by Fesa UK.
See below a history of Famosa’s exports since 2018. Data are from DataLiner:

The goal of the new Famosa company is to supply the English market which currently receives 3,300 containers of fruit per harvest, and demand is year-round. Melon&Co is therefore signing partnerships with producers in Central America and Spain. This is because the Brazilian crop runs from August to March, the Central American crop runs between February and May, and the Spanish crop runs from June to August.
