The activities at the Port of São Sebastião were suspended on Monday afternoon (08) by Ibama, Brazil’s primary environmental agency.
The reason would be the lack of an emergency service center necessary to guarantee environmental safety in the area in case of accidents, such as oil spills.
Until the situation is resolved, the activities of docking ships, operating cranes, tank truck operations, and providing equipment in the internal areas of the port are suspended.
Cargo handling in warehouses, cleaning, and vehicle ferries are not suspended.
According to Paulo Oda, president of the port authority Companhia Docas de São Sebastião, “the idea is to fulfill the requirements throughout the morning (Tuesday, August 09) and release on Wednesday (August 10).”
