Brazil’s medical exports rise 22.3%

Brazilian exports of medical devices grossed USD 247.6 million in the first quarter of this year and posted a 22.3% jump from the same period last year, according to figures released on Friday (14) by Brazilian medical device industry lobby Abimo.
Among the companies that are part of the Brazilian Health Devices, growth was at 12.4% year on year, to a total USD 27.4 million worth of exports to 108 countries. Brazilian Health Devices is the medical industry promotion project abroad spearheaded by ABIMO and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
Breakdown of export numbers
According to a statement by Abimo, the industry that contributed the most to “the good result” was hospital medical, accounting for two thirds of sales. It was followed by the rehabilitation, dentistry and laboratory industries.
Top destinations in the first quarter were the United States and Latin America’s Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.
