Brazil’s pork exports 52% higher in May YoY

Brazil exported 102,400 tons of pork (both fresh and processed) in May. This number was 52.2% higher than the amount shipped in May of last year when 67,200 tons were exported. This information is from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Monthly pork sales totaled US$227.9 million, 58.4% more than year-ago levels which totaled US$143.8 million.
The cumulative total for the first five months of this year stood at 383,200 tons, a 34% year-on-year increase when levels reached 285,900 tons. When it comes to revenue, the total was 54.8% higher, at US$878.3 million in 2020, compared to US$567.5 million in 2019. According to ABPA, it is the first time that Brazilian exports of the protein have exceeded 100,000 tons and US$200 million in a single month.
Chicken
Chicken exports (both fresh and processed) totaled 399,400 tons in May, which was 4.5% higher than May last year, at 382,200 tons. Export revenues for this period totaled US$546.3 million, 17.3% less than the result recorded in the same month last year, which totaled US$660.7 million.
From January to May, the exported volume reached 1.764 million tons, 4.9% higher year-on-year. The revenue for this period reached US$2.697 billion, marking a 3.7% drop over the same comparison period. It is worth noting that China remains the main destination for Brazilian pork and chicken exports.
