Brazil’s pork industry poised for strongest expansion amid global poultry oversupply

Projections for 2026 indicate differing dynamics for Brazil’s main animal protein sectors. While pork production is expected to be the main growth driver over the next decade, the poultry industry is likely to face tighter margins amid rising global supply. According to analysts at Rabobank, chicken meat production is projected to grow 2% in Brazil, 1.6% in the United States, and between 1.5% and 2% in the European Union, increasing international competition.

Despite global price pressure on chicken, Brazilian export expectations remain strong. The consultancy Safras & Mercado projects that Brazil will export 5.5 million tonnes of chicken meat in 2026, in a more stable sanitary environment. “Avian flu caused some impacts, but September was the best export month for chicken meat this year,” said Fernando Iglesias, animal protein analyst at Safras. He noted that lower prices indicate that Brazil is using the international market to relieve domestic supply pressure.
While poultry requires caution, pork is seen by Safras & Mercado as the protein with the greatest growth potential through 2030, with export growth expected at 3.5%-7% per year. “It’s the market with the highest potential to open new destinations and consolidate Brazil as one of the world’s top suppliers,” said Iglesias, who projects that Brazil will end 2025 as the world’s third-largest pork exporter.
Domestically, both production chains are expected to benefit. Projections point to a smaller beef supply in 2026, a factor that should stimulate domestic consumption and shift demand toward poultry and pork proteins.
