Exports of poultry genetic material—fertile eggs and day-old chicks—generated revenue 18.4% higher in March this year, totaling USD 22.3 million, compared to USD 18.8 million in the same period last year. The data was released on Wednesday (April 9) by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).
The volume shipped totaled 1,777 tonnes, a 35.1% decrease compared to March 2024, when exports reached 2,738 tonnes.
In the first quarter of the year, export revenue reached USD 62 million, up 7.6% from the USD 57.6 million recorded in the same period in 2024. The total volume exported was 5,668 tonnes, a 27.8% drop compared to 7,853 tonnes last year.
Mexico, the top export destination in March, imported 764 tonnes, a 29.7% decline from the same month in 2024. Other destinations included Senegal with 305 tonnes (-28.4%), Paraguay with 259 tonnes (+8.9%), Venezuela with 228 tonnes (+148.8%), and Colombia with 55 tonnes (+70.1%).
“We’ve seen significant growth in purchases from neighboring countries, especially for day-old chicks, to boost domestic production with top-tier Brazilian poultry genetics. This trend has been ongoing since mid-last year and is expected to continue in the coming months, reaffirming trust in Brazilian poultry genetics,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
