Brazilian meatpacker, BRF SA has recalled chicken produced between October and November last year in Dourados plant due to possible salmonella contamination. In a statement to the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), the company admits calling back 164.7 tons of fresh chicken for sale in the domestic market, as well as 299.6 tons destined for export.

The recall has been widely publicized by BRF which has been showing its commitment to transparency, especially after Pedro Parente, former Petrobras president, took the chair to lead the company. BRF has allegedly hidden facts from the public in the past. Last year’s Trapaça operation by the Federal Police (PF) led the European Union to ban the company’s plants from exporting meat to the bloc.

The following DataLiner graph shows BRF’s export trend to the EU in the last ten years:

Brazil’s chicken export industry continues to face obstacles as its largest fresh and processed poultry destination, Saudi Arabia, has recently placed a ban that impacts five poultry plants currently exporting to the country, including BRF and JBS.
