BTP resumes container operations after nearly 5 months

Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) resumed container loading and unloading operations at its berth 1 on Monday, July 1, following nearly five months of repair work. The movement of containers at BTP’s berth 1 had been temporarily halted on January 19 after strong winds caused a moored vessel’s cable to break.
“With the completion of the work on the berth, we can fully advance the preparations for expanding the terminal’s dock capacity,” stated BTP CEO Ricardo Arten.
BTP will invest R$1.9 billion in the coming years to increase its container operating capacity by 40%. This investment includes the acquisition of four new and modern STS (Ship To Shore/Portêiner) cranes and new fenders.
During the repair work on berth 1, the container terminal implemented solutions to ensure continued customer service.
Fernando Faccioli de Camargo, BTP’s Engineering and Maintenance Manager, highlighted the rapid completion of the repair project. “We safely completed, in less than five months, a complex engineering project with numerous technical specifications that typically require much more time. This is a milestone for the entire terminal and demonstrates the commitment of the BTP team, technical consultancies, and executing companies to the project,” emphasized Camargo.
