The Cáceres River Port, located in the state of Mato Grosso, is expected to resume operations in the first half of 2020, nearly eight years after being decommissioned. The information comes from the governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes.

According to Mendes, a work plan has been agreed with the local soybean producers’ association so that the port and, consequently, navigation of the stretch of the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, between Cáceres and Puerto Quijarro, in Bolivia, will be reopened.

Cáceres Mayor Francis Maris, has said the reactivation of the port will bring benefits to the entire state of Mato Grosso. “To give you an idea, for every ton of soybeans carried by the Paraguay River, there is a saving of 100 dollars, according to a study by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics. This will add more income to producers. It will also be possible to import agricultural products such as urea and potassium at a lower cost,” said the mayor.

Once the port is operational, the next step will be the creation of an Export Free Zone, the feasibility of which is currently under analysis by a number of consultants.
