CAMEX extends zero-tariff goods to combat Covid-19 until year end

In a meeting held on Wednesday, May 19, the Executive Management Committee (GECEX) of the Chamber of Foreign Trade (CAMEX) decided to extend until December 31, 2021, the validity of Resolution No. 17/2020, which zeroed the import tariff on items essential to fight Covid-19. The list contains 628 items, including medicines and vaccines, hospital equipment, personal hygiene items, and other supplies. If it were not extended, the reduction in the rates would terminate on June 30.
The extension was based on the proposal and technical note presented by the Ministry of Health – the body responsible for coordinating the fight against the pandemic – in response to the consultation carried out by the Executive Secretariat of CAMEX (SE / CAMEX). The list was the result of cooperation between SE / CAMEX, the Ministry of Health, the Special Secretariat of the Federal Revenue, and other departments of the Ministry of Economy.
The work is coordinated to compose the relationship with products recommended both by international organizations – such as the World Health Organization (WHO) – and by national entities, such as ANVISA and the National Council of Municipal Health Secretariats (CONASENS), in addition to those items requested by associations and companies.
