Ceará Begins Direct Iron Ore Export to China

A milestone in Ceará’s export history will be reached this December, when the first shipment of iron ore will be made directly to China, eliminating the need for intermediaries from the Southeast region.
The operation, scheduled for December 20, will export 87,000 tons of iron ore from the Port of Pecém, solidifying this maritime terminal as an essential asset in the country’s foreign trade.
This direct sale breaks with the traditional intermediary model, allowing the Ceará-based company responsible for the export to increase its competitiveness and add value to local production.
“This achievement is a game-changer for the Ceará export market and the Northeast region. It shows that we have the technical and logistical capacity to compete directly in global markets, especially in the demanding Asian market,” said Augusto Fernandes, CEO of JM Negócios Internacionais, responsible for the logistics of the operation.
In addition to strengthening the state’s strategic position, this operation reflects the growth of the mineral sector in the Northeast, paving the way for future direct transactions and new investments. The operation highlights Ceará’s potential as a key player in international commodity trade, particularly in competitive and demanding Asian markets.
