China approves import of edible pork fat from Brazil
Mar, 26, 2019 Posted by datamarnewsWeek 201914
The Chinese government has authorized Brazilian pork meat exporters to ship edible pork fat to meet increased local demands resulting from the African swine flu outbreak in the country. Brazil’s Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) had requested China to open its market to this commodity over two years ago.
Currently, nine Brazilian pork units are permitted to export pork meat to China and the export of unrefined, frozen pork fat does not require additional inspections to the slaughterhouses. Under the circumstances, the Asian giant is in danger of having a pork processing supply deficit of as much as 2m tons by the end of 2019.
