Chinese fertilizer producers to suspend exports amid tight supply

Some of China’s biggest fertilizer companies have said they will temporarily suspend exports, the country’s state planning body said on Aug. 30 after input prices at one of the world’s biggest grain producers hit record levels.

China is a major global phosphate exporter, having shipped 3.2 million tons of diammonium phosphate to buyers like India and Pakistan in the first half of this year, in addition to 2.4 million tons of urea, according to customs data.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in a statement that it had called together fertilizer companies for a discussion against hoarding and speculation. The agency did not identify the companies involved.
