Construction of a new port in Santa Catarina is expected to begin in the second half of 2027. The private-use terminal planned by Coamo Cooperativa Agroindustrial (TUP Coamo) in Itapoá is undergoing environmental permitting. Its preliminary license has been issued, and the project is now seeking an installation license while pursuing operating authorization from the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq).

This week, Bunge Terminal Graneleiro de São Francisco do Sul conducted tests at the new port, the state’s seventh. The private terminal received its first cargo ship, but the company clarified that commercial operations have not yet begun. The port has the capacity to handle six million tonnes annually, focusing on grain exports. Santa Catarina also has operating port terminals in Itapoá, Itajaí, Navegantes, Imbituba and Laguna, in addition to the Port of São Francisco do Sul.

The investment by Coamo, a cooperative headquartered in Campo Mourão, Paraná, with operations in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul, is estimated at R$3 billion. With construction expected to take 36 months, operations are projected to begin in 2030, provided the start of construction in 2030 is confirmed.

The chart below shows the main exports handled at Port Itapoá between January and August, according to Datamar data:
