Aliança Navegação e Logística, A.P. Moller-Maersk’s cabotage arm in Brazil, has launched a nationwide pre-shipment storage service for operations across all 17 ports where it is active. The solution is designed to strengthen supply-chain resilience by allowing containers to remain at a depot near the port of shipment until the ideal loading window, helping customers navigate periods of disruption without interruptions. With cargo positioned strategically close to the terminal, the service also avoids unnecessary repositioning, including the need to return cargo to origin.
Aliança’s pre-shipment storage service allows shippers to send cargo in advance, ensuring the container is in the right place at the right time for loading. By reducing the risk of delays and avoiding additional inland moves to the port, the service is intended to improve logistics efficiency, mitigate costs and support supply-chain continuity.
According to Aliança President Luiza Bublitz, the service adds a new layer of resilience to cargo operations in the face of possible disruptions such as adverse weather, congestion, lack of terminal space, strikes or work stoppages. “Pre-shipment storage reinforces our strategy of expanding logistics efficiency and consolidating our competitive advantage in integrated logistics, further strengthening our core product: cabotage integrated with other transport modes,” she said. “In addition to reducing uncertainty, we accelerate flows and increase predictability for customers at a competitive cost. We are directing investments so that cabotage advances as an increasingly robust, connected and market-ready service, both now and in future growth cycles,” she added.
The solution is already available nationwide through a network of depots strategically distributed and connected to all ports served by Aliança.
With the launch, the company said it is reinforcing its commitment to boosting the competitiveness of Brazilian cabotage by offering solutions that improve efficiency, operational continuity and logistics performance across the supply chain.
New depot in Rio Grande
The launch comes alongside the start of operations at a new Maersk Group depot in Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul state, which is being integrated into the service support network in southern Brazil. In its first phase, the unit occupies 70,000 square meters, with room to expand to as much as 123,000 square meters, significantly increasing dedicated capacity in the region.
Beyond the operational area, the new site includes several environmental features, including a rainwater reuse system, structured waste management and its own effluent treatment station, ensuring that all wastewater generated by the operation is properly treated. The complex also includes reverse logistics for a range of inputs and materials, such as refrigerant gas used in repairs to cooling systems, to ensure correct environmental handling.
The complex also stands out for its high safety standards, with 24-hour monitoring, access control and continuous surveillance to protect cargo throughout the logistics journey. The depot operates with a management system that enables integrated operational control and cargo traceability for customers, a relevant differentiator, since not all depots in the market offer that level of visibility.
The new structure reinforces Maersk’s investment in strengthening the resilience of its services, especially during periods of greater operational pressure such as weather events or export peaks.
