Bahia state dock company Codeba has approved the result of a tender to restore infrastructure at the Port of Ilhéus. AXXO Construtora won the contract with a bid of R$38.6 million, according to a notice published in Brazil’s Federal Official Gazette on Thursday.

An underwater inspection identified deterioration in the material filling the quay joints, installed more than 15 years ago. The survey also found material loss beneath the pavement.

According to the project, the damage was aggravated by tidal action and the thrust generated by vessel propellers.

The Port of Ilhéus rehabilitation will cover approximately 485 meters of quay structure, 365 meters of rock protection along the northern and southern sections, and 38,000 square meters of back area.

The project includes repairs to the retaining structures, replacement of the drainage system and upgrades to pavement used by cargo-handling equipment and vehicles. Some of the underwater work will require divers.

The works are expected to take eight months from the issuance of the notice to proceed.

Codeba’s board approved the contract during an ordinary meeting. The published notice does not yet specify when the contract will be signed or when construction will begin.
