The Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba) has published a public notice to hire a company responsible for structural works at the Port of Ilhéus, located on the southern coast of Bahia. Interested parties have until February 4 of next year to qualify for the bidding process.
According to Codeba — the federal public company that manages the ports — the process includes essential works to reinforce the infrastructure of the Port of Ilhéus, such as embrechamento of the quay (filling and stabilization of the structural base), restoration of the retaining rockfill of the hydraulic landfill (a stone barrier that protects the area from erosion), and upgrades to the pavement and drainage system of the port’s back area, to improve safety, durability, and operational efficiency.
The estimated contract value is confidential, and the evaluation criteria will be based on technical merit and price—a model that requires detailed proposals on both technical capability and cost.
In addition to the Port of Ilhéus, Codeba is responsible for administering the ports of Salvador and Aratu-Candeias in the state of Bahia.
This past July, the Bahia state government announced the hiring, without a bidding process, of an environmental management plan for the Port of Ilhéus. The cost was estimated at BRL 731,800 for a six-month contract. The development comes amid ongoing discussions about the partial concession of the ports managed by Codeba.
Operating since the early 1970s, the Port of Ilhéus (also known as Porto do Malhado) is considered insufficient to handle cargo following the arrival of FIOL (the West-East Integration Railway).
To support this project, the Porto Sul terminal — also in Ilhéus — was announced as a solution to increase capacity for transporting cargo such as minerals, grains, and fertilizers.
However, the completed works at the terminal are currently limited to access ways, construction yards, and a bridge over the Almada River.
