Coffee exports through the Vports-operated Port of Vitória complex reached a record for the first eight months of the year, driven by a sharp increase in conilon shipments.

Conilon exports rose 74% by number of bags, while arabica shipments increased 27%. Soluble coffee was the only category to decline, falling 14% over the period.

From January through August, Espírito Santo exported 4.3 million bags of coffee through the port complex, already surpassing the volume recorded during all of last year, according to Vports.

The eight-month total was 58% higher than in the same period of 2025. Export revenue exceeded $1 billion, up 26% year on year.

August alone marked the seventh-highest monthly volume recorded by the Vitória Coffee Trade Center, or CCCV, in its 36-year history.

Exports totaled 854,000 bags during the month, up 9% from July and 29% from August 2025.

Of the total shipped in August, 762,000 bags were conilon, 63,000 were arabica and 29,000 were soluble coffee.

The increase in conilon shipments was consistent with August data from Brazilian coffee exporters council Cecafé, which reported a 53.6% year-on-year rise in exports of canephora coffee, a category that includes robusta and conilon. According to the organization, it was the strongest August on record in both volume and revenue.

Espírito Santo leads Brazil in conilon

Espírito Santo has Brazil’s second-largest coffee-growing area, covering 424,800 hectares, according to the “Especial Café – Retrato da Economia” report from Connect Fecomércio-ES, part of the Espírito Santo Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism. For conilon specifically, the state accounts for 69.1% of Brazil’s planted area, with 286,000 hectares, and 65.4% of national production.

Despite Espírito Santo’s prominent role in Brazil’s coffee logistics, the Port of Santos remains the country’s main gateway for coffee exports. According to Datamar data, the São Paulo port accounts for 72.69% of Brazil’s coffee export volumes. The chart below shows the share handled by the other ports:

Port investments support export growth

Vports and the CCCV point to the cooperation agreement signed between the two organizations as one factor supporting stronger exports.

Vports also highlighted the addition of 70,000 square meters of container-handling area at Capuaba, equivalent to 60% of the area previously operated by the terminal, backed by R$35 million in investment.

“This performance is the result of direct action by exporters, which have been investing in and expanding coffee processing and storage infrastructure,” CCCV President Fabrício Tristão said.

“At the same time, they have been working continuously to demonstrate the reliability of deliveries and the quality of Espírito Santo coffees in strategic markets, strengthening the state’s presence and increasing confidence among international buyers.”

Vports CEO Pedro Benevides also highlighted investments made during the company’s four years operating the port under concession.

“We have an expansion plan that includes structural works and new projects to increase our operating capacity and diversify the cargoes we handle, with solutions that create new opportunities for the port and the entire logistics chain,” Benevides said.

The record coffee exports through the Port of Vitória reflect particularly strong growth in conilon shipments, which remain central to Espírito Santo’s position in Brazil’s coffee industry.
