Colombia opens market to Brazilian bovine blood meal
Nov, 03, 2025 Posted by Lucas LorimerWeek 202546
The Brazilian and Colombian governments have concluded a sanitary agreement allowing Brazil to export bovine blood meal to Colombia.
The product is a high-protein ingredient used in the production of animal feed. Colombia, with a population of around 52 million, estimates that more than half of its households own at least one pet — representing a significant market for Brazilian producers in the sector.
In 2024, Brazil exported more than US$ 863 million in agricultural products to Colombia, mainly paper and pulp, refined sugar, coffee, and animal feed.
With this new agreement, Brazil’s agribusiness sector reaches 471 new market openings since the beginning of 2023.
These results stem from joint efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
