CSN Mineração said on Tuesday, Sept. 29, that it had cut its 2026 guidance for production and third-party ore purchases by 6 million tonnes, to a range of 39 million to 41 million tonnes, citing market conditions pressured by higher freight costs.
Brazil’s second-largest iron ore exporter also decided to temporarily reduce production of lower-grade ore at the dry processing plant at its Pires complex in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, according to a material fact.
“This measure can be reversed at any time, without major consequences, provided market conditions ensure better margins for this type of ore,” the company said.
CSN Mineração Production Guidance Cut Pushes C1 Cash Cost Higher
Because of the temporary reduction in production volumes and lower third-party ore purchases expected in the coming months, CSN Mineração raised its 2026 C1 cash cost guidance from between $22 and $23.50 per tonne to a range of $25 to $26 per tonne. The metric measures the direct cost of producing one tonne of ore.
