Mining giant CSN Mineração will invest an estimated R$ 400 million in the expansion and modernization of the Tecar pier, a bulk cargo terminal at the Port of Itaguaí. The announcement was made during a meeting with acting mayor Haroldo Jesus, and the project will be carried out by construction firm Andrade Gutierrez, with work scheduled to begin in August 2026. The estimated completion time is eight years.
Tecar, operated by CSN Mineração and connected to MRS, is used for iron ore exports at the Port of Itaguaí terminal. With expansion and modernization, operational capacity will increase, boosting cargo throughput and municipal tax revenues.
An estimated 600 jobs are expected to be created during construction. The municipal secretary for Ports and Logistics, Ronaldo Fucci, highlighted the initiative’s impact on the city. “This investment demonstrates that Itaguaí has a vocation for port and industrial growth. At the meeting, both the mayor and the department suggested that the hiring of labor and outsourced services be sourced locally, in order to create an economic belt and expand the impact on the municipal economy,” he said.
