Customs Auditors’ Strike Causes Millions in Losses at Brazilian Ports and Airports

The ongoing strike by Federal Revenue auditors has resulted in millions in losses across Brazilian ports and airports, severely disrupting cargo clearance.
More than 200,000 shipments are currently stalled nationwide. In Santos, Brazil’s busiest port, container backlogs are mounting, leading to significant financial losses.
According to Hugo Cesar Evangelista, director of the Customs Brokers’ Union, cargo clearance typically takes three to seven days under normal conditions. However, due to the strike, processing times have skyrocketed to 35 to 40 days.
The strike, now in its 15th day, is part of a push for a 19% salary adjustment. The Ministry of Finance declined to comment on the situation.
