The Port of Itajaí was closed due to weather conditions this Monday (24). At around 8:30 a.m., the access channel to the terminal was declared impracticable by the Brazilian Navy due to winds above 20 knots and adverse conditions recorded at the bar.
“As a safety measure, two departures and one arrival scheduled for this morning were suspended. The Civil Defense of Santa Catarina maintains an alert for strong winds and instability along the coast,” the port said in a statement.
Cyclone causes instability
Santa Catarina is experiencing more severe instability due to the formation of an extratropical cyclone between the coast of Paraná and Southeastern Brazil. Forecasts from Civil Defense indicate heavy rain, flood risk, flash floods, and the possibility of landslides in several regions of the state.
This Monday (24), the approach and formation of the extratropical cyclone will significantly increase rainfall volumes, raising the risk to moderate or high in regions that are more susceptible to flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
