On July 18, the new director of Port Management at Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), the public entity that manages the Ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, was announced. Luiz Fernando Walther de Almeida takes post, who entered the port sector after a 32-year military career.
Walther de Almeida graduated from the Miltary Academy of Agulhas Negras. He also earned a Master’s degree from the Brazilian Army’s Captains Career School and a Ph.D. from the Army Command and General Staff College (Eceme).
Almeida ended his career in the Army as commander of the Students of the Military Institute of Infantry. In recent years, he has held the Director of Infrastructure and Port Management position at Companhia Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba), worked as Chief of Staff at the Port of Santos, and, more recently, was an advisor to the Administrative-Financial Directorate of Docas do Rio.
During his term, Walther de Almeida intends to continue the projects and hear the demands of port infrastructure and management established by his predecessor, Mário Povia, who left his post in May to take over the Ministry of Infrastructure’s National Secretariat of Ports and Waterway Transportation (SNPTA/MInfra).
