A project for a new natural gas-fired thermal power plant at the Pecem Complex, to be developed by Eneva and Diamante, was selected in the capacity auction held on Wednesday (March 18) by the federal government. Known as Jandaia, the project calls for 6.5 billion reais in investment, with construction expected to begin in the first half of 2026.
The new thermal plant is scheduled to start operations in 2030 and is expected to handle 18 million cubic meters of natural gas per year. To support the project, the Port of Pecem will gain a new pier, known as Pier Zero, with investment of 430 million reais. The structure will be dedicated to natural gas transport.
“There will be a moored vessel, known as an FSRU, or Floating Storage and Regasification Unit, responsible for supplying the gas and connecting it to these thermal plants. In addition, our negotiations include surplus gas volumes, not only enough to meet the needs of the thermal plants, but also available to supply our industries and serve as an incentive for the installation of new industrial projects,” said Max Quintino, president of the Pecem Complex.
