European Union buys less soy overall, boosts imports from Brazil

European Union soybean imports so far in the 2025/26 season, which began in July, reached 2.29 million tonnes by August 31, down 5% compared with the same period in the previous cycle, according to data published by the European Commission on Tuesday (2).
On the other hand, imports of Brazilian soybeans, which account for the majority of the total volume, increased to 1.5 million tonnes, from 1.49 million tonnes a year earlier, while shipments from the United States fell to 477,000 tonnes, from 674,000 tonnes in the 2024/25 period.
EU imports of Brazilian soybean meal rose to 1.78 million tonnes, compared with 1.6 million tonnes a year earlier.
In the case of corn, EU imports of the Brazilian cereal in July and August more than doubled year-on-year, reaching 688,600 tonnes. Meanwhile, imports of U.S. corn fell to 286,800 tonnes.
