In the year-to-date, from January to August 2023, ginger exports showed a significant increase. The volume exported reached 10.4 thousand tonnes, marking a growth of 29.4% compared to the same period the previous year, generating revenue surpassing $20.1 million. These numbers indicate that the ginger produced in Espírito Santo, a Brazilian north of Rio de Janeiro, has been in more demand in the international market.
In 2022, Espírito Santo’s ginger made it to 41 countries with an impressive export volume of 19.5 thousand tonnes. The main importers included the Netherlands (59.27%), the United States (27.42%), Argentina (3.84%), Italy (3.10%), and the United Kingdom (1.26%).
Ginger stood out among Espírito Santo’s exports, accounting for 59% of the total volume shipped abroad in 2022, generating revenue of $18.9 million for the state. In 2023, this crop saw a significant turnaround, now ranking 4th in the list of export products, with revenue of $20.1 million in just eight months.
