Unlike Brazil’s overall trade balance, which worsened compared to 2024, trade with Argentina flipped signs in 2025, moving from a deficit in January–May last year to a surplus in the same period this year.

From January to May 2025, Brazil exported US$7.5 billion to Argentina, representing a 52% increase compared to the same period last year. Imports from Argentina during the same period totaled US$ 5.1 billion, virtually unchanged, with a modest 0.1% increase. The result was a trade surplus of US$ 2.44 billion with the neighboring country. Last year, Brazil recorded a small deficit of US$142 million over the same period.

Below is a historical overview of Brazilian exports to Argentina. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

In Brazil’s overall trade balance, the surplus from January to May reached US$ 24.4 billion, a 30% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

According to José Augusto de Castro, president of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Association (AEB), the increase in exports to Argentina is good news amid the negative impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies on the prices of Brazil’s main export commodities.

According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex/Mdic) released this afternoon, exports to Argentina also faced a 2.2% decline in prices between January and May compared to the same months in 2024. However, a 48.7% increase in volume ensured a more than 50% rise in revenues. Overall, Brazilian exports fell 0.9% in revenue, with a 0.3% increase in quantity and a 1.5% decline in prices.
