Fertilizer Deliveries Surpass 9 Million Tonnes in the First Quarter

Fertilizer deliveries to the Brazilian market totaled 9.76 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 3.8% increase compared to the 9.40 million tonnes recorded between January and March 2025, according to the National Association for Fertilizer Distribution (ANDA).

In March alone, deliveries reached 2.83 million tonnes, up 18.7% from the 2.38 million tonnes recorded in the same month of 2025.

The state of Mato Grosso, the country’s leading fertilizer consumer, accounted for the largest share of deliveries during the period, representing 25.2% of the total, with 2.45 million tonnes. It was followed by Goiás (1.10 million tonnes), São Paulo (1.08 million tonnes), Paraná (1.02 million tonnes), Minas Gerais (882,000 tonnes), Mato Grosso do Sul (543,000 tonnes), and Bahia (541,000 tonnes).

Domestic Production

Domestic production of intermediate fertilizers totaled 483,000 tonnes in March 2026, a 9.7% decline compared to the same month a year earlier.

For the first quarter, production reached 1.41 million tonnes, down 16.2% from the 1.68 million tonnes produced during the same period in 2025.

ANDA noted that, despite efforts to gather data from companies, not all domestic production was captured during the first quarter due to changes in corporate ownership structures and the resumption of operations at certain production assets.

Imports

Imports of intermediate fertilizers reached 2.74 million tonnes in March 2026, an increase of 10.1% year-on-year.

During the first quarter, total imports amounted to 8.15 million tonnes, a 4% decline from 8.49 million tonnes during the same period in 2025.

At the Port of Paranaguá, Brazil’s main gateway for fertilizer imports, 2.12 million tonnes were unloaded between January and March, a 13.5% decrease compared to the 2.45 million tonnes handled during the same period last year.

According to data from Siacesp/MDIC, the port accounted for 26.1% of all fertilizer imports arriving through Brazilian ports during the quarter.
