Forklift plunges into Port of Santana waters; one worker missing

Search teams are diligently working on Wednesday morning (17) to locate the forklift operator who went missing after the vehicle plunged into the Amazon River during a maneuver at the Port of Santana, located 17 kilometers from Macapá, on Tuesday afternoon (16).

The dive team of the local Fire Department (CBM) is conducting the search efforts.

Due to the tidal instability, searches at the site are challenging. According to the CBM, two teams are operating in the region’s muddy waters. The machine is currently at a depth of 36 meters.

In a statement, Companhia Docas de Santana (CDSA) reported that the reasons for the accident are still unknown.

According to information provided to g1, the operator was wearing a seatbelt. As of now, it is unclear whether he managed to free himself from the vehicle or if he is trapped.

A private team of divers has been hired by the company responsible for the port to lift the forklift in the early afternoon on Wednesday, January 17.

The company stated that the area was operated by a company involved in loading cooking oil and rice from Manaus destined for Venezuela.
