Freight to China boosts regional exports of leather in Latin America

Rising export costs to China have increased regional trade in Latin America, according to the Brazilian footwear and leather industry.
Exports of leather and footwear components totaled US$ 175 million (about R$ 900 million) in the first five months of this year compared to the same period in 2021, up 21%, according to data from the entity.
In Latin America, where five of the eight main leather export destinations are, growth was 32%.
According to Assintecal (an industry association), shipments to the United Arab Emirates and the Dominican Republic also grew. However, China remains the primary destination for Brazilian products, especially chemical products used in leather treatment.
