In 2025, the fuel sector accounted for 56.1% of Rio Grande do Norte’s total exports. The data, released by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC), highlight the state’s growing role in the country’s energy matrix — one that is increasingly reaching international markets.
Between January and August 2025, fuel exports totaled US$323.8 million (R$1.73 billion), representing 56.1% of Rio Grande do Norte’s entire export portfolio and reaffirming its position as a key driver of the state’s globally oriented economy.
The state’s production has a clear destination abroad. Panama alone imported US$262.8 million worth of fuel from Rio Grande do Norte, followed by the Netherlands (US$28.4 million) and the United States (US$24.4 million) among the top buyers. In total, the state’s exports reached US$577.2 million during the period.
“The development of the entire chain that makes up this sector demonstrates the state’s ability to compete in strategic markets and generate employment and income through technology and training,” said José Carlos de Almeida, Business Consultant at Central Sicredi Nordeste. The cooperative supports the energy sector by financing investments in technological innovation and infrastructure, allowing companies to expand production capacity and adopt more efficient practices.
