With support from the government of Sergipe, the logistics solutions company VLI carried out an operational test for the handling of containers in Sergipe. The company is responsible for managing the Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal (TMIB). Coming from the Port of Salvador (BA) after unloading, the container was transferred to Sergipe by road in a Customs Transit Declaration (DTA) operation and was sent to be stored in a TMIB bonded area.
All handling was carried out in alignment with the consenting bodies. The operational test takes place at a time of dynamization of TMIB activities, already consolidated as an important export route for steel inputs. Recently, VLI announced the resumption of grain shipments due to increased demand for agribusiness in the region. The operation under a test regime aims to offer a competitive advantage to Sergipe companies that import through containers.
The TMIB stands out for its versatility in handling loads and its structure, with transshipment terminals and connected warehouses. In all, in the last five years, 3.31 million tons of general cargo were shipped at the Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal. In 2020 alone, 763,280 tons were handled at the site, an increase of 31.8% compared to 2019, when 578,710 tons were transported.
