A new monthly scheduled Ro-Ro and project cargo service will use the Port of Montevideo as its hub in the River Plate region, Grimaldi Lines said. The operation will connect Asia with South America, with Montevideo serving as a consolidation and redistribution point for cargo bound for Asunción, Paraguay.
The inaugural voyage is scheduled to depart Taicang, China, on Feb. 17, with an estimated transit time of 37 days. The service will include direct calls at Montevideo and the port of Zárate in Argentina, with an inland waterway connection option to Asunción. The vessel assigned to the route is the Italian-flagged MV Grande Texas.
Grimaldi Group, which controls Grimaldi Lines, operates globally in the Ro-Ro, car carrier and ferry segments, providing integrated maritime logistics services for vehicles, rolling cargo, containers, palletized cargo and passengers. In Uruguay, the group is represented by KMA Uruguay.
The Grimaldi Group currently operates a fleet of more than 140 vessels and has an expansion plan that includes adding 34 new ships by 2030. Its network connects more than 140 ports in over 50 countries.
The group’s growth strategy is centered on technological innovation and sustainability, with new vessels equipped with energy-efficiency systems, emissions-reduction technologies and readiness for alternative fuels.
