The Instituto Água e Terra (IAT) has issued the environmental license authorizing the start of revitalization works on the main access roads to the Port of Antonina. The public company Portos do Paraná is investing BRL 18 million in the project, with construction expected to begin later this semester.

The Simplified Environmental License (LAS), published last week, allows for the restructuring of 4.6 kilometers along Avenida Conde Matarazzo and Rua Engenheiro Luiz Augusto Leão da Fonseca. The project includes removing the old asphalt and replacing it with concrete pavement, which offers greater durability and significantly lower maintenance costs. In addition, the material enhances road safety.

“This is a major intervention for the local population, improving both the organization of heavy truck traffic and the mobility of families living near these roads,” said Altamir Hacke, head of IAT’s regional office in the coastal region.

“We followed all necessary conditions during the environmental licensing process, based on technical analysis, including solid waste management, liquid effluents, stormwater drainage, and noise control,” he added.

The proposal also includes the construction of bike lanes, accessible ramps, new bus shelters, and sidewalk renovations. Drainage systems will be installed to prevent flooding, alongside signage and other complementary services to improve truck flow.

“These upgrades will bring improvements to the city and safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, as they involve some of the main access roads to both the city center and the Port of Antonina,” highlighted Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.

The Antonina City Hall prepared the project and oversaw the geotechnical surveys along Avenida Conde Matarazzo. The soil was analyzed to ensure the quality of the pavement and assist in selecting appropriate materials and construction techniques.

Detours and temporary traffic changes will be planned to minimize disruptions during construction. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.

In 2024, the Port of Antonina handled 1.9 million tons of goods, including bagged and bulk sugar, fertilizers, and other products—a 47% increase compared to 2023, when 1.3 million tons were moved.
