Indonesia approves 17 more Brazilian beef plants for export

Indonesia has officially authorized 17 Brazilian meatpacking plants to export beef to the country. The decision follows bilateral negotiations and on-site inspections carried out last month by Indonesian sanitary authorities in Brazil.

With this move, 38 Brazilian facilities are now cleared to supply the local market, representing an 80% increase in the number of approved plants.

The announcement comes after another major advance in Brazilian beef exports to Indonesia: in August, authorities allowed the import of bone-in beef, offal, meat products, and prepared beef items from Brazil.

Indonesia, with over 270 million inhabitants, is the world’s fourth most populous country and has been expanding its external purchases to meet growing demand for animal protein.

The new approvals are expected to boost both the volume and diversity of shipments, strengthening Brazil’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s main suppliers.

The authorizations stem from negotiations led by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, through the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations (SCRI) and the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense (SDA), in coordination with Brazil’s agricultural attaché in Jakarta, the Brazilian Embassy in Indonesia, and the domestic private sector, which worked together to meet local requirements.
