Intermodal Port of Pederneiras halting operations

Operations at the Intermodal Port of Pederneiras (26 kilometers from Bauru), via the Tietê-Paraná Waterway, are being halted this Friday (August 27). The information was released on Wednesday (August 25) by the city, revealing the occurrence of layoffs in the sector. By way of a note, the waterway department states that “it continues to work with the gradual reduction of drafts in the Tietê River to avoid stoppage and, thus, allow the flow of grains.”
According to the Pederneiras secretary of urban development, Paulo Fernando Sampaio Galvão Filho, the logistics company that supports the
operations of three companies in the food sector at the Intermodal Port for the transshipment of grains to the Port of Santos announced that it is suspending activities.
“There is a bottleneck in the waterway in Nova Avanhandava. During the dry season, they carry out operations ‘in waves.’ When the wave leaves, the barge can get out. Furthermore, they have to travel with a reduced load. The decision (to halt operations) belongs solely and exclusively to the companies”, he explains.
“They are stopping because it is not economically viable for them to continue transporting with this load reduction and with the traffic reduction as well, because of the operation “in waves.” According to the secretary, the drought also impacts jobs, and there are reports of layoffs in the municipality.
