Ivory Coast Seeks to Resume Mango Exports to Europe in 2027

Ivory Coast is working to resume mango exports to the European Union ahead of the 2027 season, after shipments were suspended in 2026 following the interception of consignments infested with fruit flies.
According to FreshPlaza, the Ivorian government is considering investing $5.9 million in pest control and stronger phytosanitary measures, including traceability, trapping and shipment monitoring.
The European market accounts for approximately 66% of Ivory Coast’s mango export revenue. The investment plan includes deploying more than three million fruit fly traps across nine growing regions and stepping up phytosanitary inspections.
The measures are expected to be implemented before the next flowering season. However, exports cannot resume until EU authorities assess the phytosanitary guarantees submitted by Ivory Coast.
Potential Impact on Brazilian Mango Exports
For Brazil, a resumption of Ivory Coast mango exports would mean the return of a significant competitor in the European market, particularly for Palmer mangoes.
The impact on Brazilian exporters will depend largely on the quality of Ivorian mangoes reaching the market, although the country’s export season does not significantly overlap with Brazil’s.
