JBS Terminais will expand its international shipping service portfolio with the arrival of two new deep-sea services at the Port of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina: UCLA/Gulf to SAEC String 1 and BOSSA NOVA/SIRIUS 1. With the additions, the company will reach the highest number of shipping services ever recorded in the history of the Port of Itajaí. To support the expansion, JBS Terminais will also invest about R$9 million to bring in-house the logistics operation between the quay and the container stacks.
The UCLA/Gulf to SAEC String 1 service will connect Itajaí to the U.S. East Coast, the Caribbean and northern South America, including markets such as Houston and Cartagena. BOSSA NOVA/SIRIUS 1 will strengthen the link between Santa Catarina and the Mediterranean, with hubs such as Algeciras and Tanger Med.
To keep pace with the operation’s growth, JBS Terminais will invest about R$9 million in the purchase of 25 trucks for exclusive use in internal operations at the Port of Itajaí. The vehicles will be used in the flow between the quay and the container stacks. As a result, the company will operate its logistics activities fully in-house. The trucks are expected to be delivered by the end of May, with a gradual start of operations through early June.
The operational reinforcement reflects the terminal’s continued growth. Since taking over operations, JBS Terminais has posted average monthly growth of 12% in TEU throughput. In April, the terminal recorded the highest monthly volume in its history, handling more than 44,800 TEUs.
According to Aristides Russi Junior, president of JBS Terminais, the company has invested about R$230 million since October 2024 in restarting operations at the Port of Itajaí, which had been halted for nearly two years. The new R$9 million investment adds to that amount.
“The investments and the addition of new routes are part of our operational ramp-up strategy and strengthen the role of the Port of Itajaí in Brazil’s waterway logistics network,” Russi said.
The following chart compares container export and import volumes handled at the Port of Itajaí, according to data from Datamar’s DataLiner platform:

A dozen shipping services
The two new regular shipping services will join the 10 services already in operation. The established routes strengthen Santa Catarina’s connections with strategic destinations in Asia, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.
The terminal currently has 180,000 square meters of operational area, 1,030 meters of quay, four berths with 14 meters of depth, 1,705 reefer plugs and eight reversible gates. The structure reinforces Itajaí’s position as a platform for refrigerated cargo, proteins and international trade.
