Maersk charges additional fee for “errors” in dangerous cargo declaration

Maersk has now adopted an additional US$5,000 fee to customers who make “errors” in declaring dangerous cargo. The measure aims to maintain the safety of people, goods, and the environment.
According to the company, the fee was adopted due to the large number of errors in the dangerous cargo declarations. Customers are subject to additional fees when they declare that a cargo is not dangerous, when in fact it is, and when they do not declare the goods correctly and ship cargoes that are not accepted due to international regulations or internal policies.
“Our commitment is to continue to reduce risk for all parties involved in moving and transporting goods, as well as improving confidence and safety in the industry,” concluded Maersk.
