Maersk to raise container protection fees for Brazil-bound shipments from 2026

Maersk has announced that it will increase the charges for Container Protect Essential (CP1) and Container Protect Unlimited (CP3) for shipments bound for Brazil from any origin worldwide. The change takes effect on January 1, 2026, and will remain valid until further notice.
Under the new tariff scheme, CP1 will cost USD 37.05 per dry container and USD 40.85 per reefer, while CP3 will be set at USD 57.95 for dry cargo and USD 61.75 for refrigerated cargo. The rates apply to all routes destined for Brazil.
The company stated that the tariffs are calculated based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD) — which varies between Spot and non-Spot bookings — and that adjustments may incur additional charges, such as local fees or contingency surcharges.
As a reference, Maersk released the current tariff structure applied on the Algeciras (Spain) – Santos (Brazil) corridor, which includes costs such as basic freight, documentation fees, terminal handling, and services related to export and import processes. On this route, CP1 remains at USD 37.05 for dry containers and USD 40.85 for refrigerated and special cargo.
The company also emphasized that these changes do not affect tariffs that must be filed or registered under local regulatory requirements. On routes subject to the US Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, any adjustments only apply if they are included in contracts registered with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
With the adjustment, Maersk aims to ensure the continuity of its global services and to cover the costs associated with container protection in international trade with Brazil.
