Construction of the new Manaus Moderna Port began on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in downtown Manaus. Led by Brazil’s National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), the Manaus Moderna Port project will provide new facilities for passenger boarding and cargo handling, backed by an investment of R$916 million.
Unlike the Roadway, the current Port of Manaus, access to the new Manaus Moderna Port will be free of charge.
Construction will be carried out by Construtora Etam, which was hired by DNIT through a public bidding process. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
In this initial phase, a base has been built to accommodate the machinery that will be used to install the port’s foundation piles.
Manaus Moderna Port Project Will Cover 38,000 Square Meters
According to the federal government, the new terminal will be built on an area of approximately 38,000 square meters. The site will include facilities for passengers and cargo, as well as a wastewater treatment plant, an electrical substation, guardhouses, support facilities and common areas.
The project also includes a playground and a covered parking area equipped with solar panels.
The R$916 million investment will be funded by the federal government.
