The Brazilian government received confirmation of the acceptance of the International Sanitary Certificate model by the Russian sanitary authority, with validity extended to all countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), for the export of animal by-products intended for the manufacture of pharmaceutical extracts (opotherapeutics).
The new authorizations cover bovine and swine retina, bovine prostate, bovine scapular cartilage, bovine ovaries, and bovine thymus glands. With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness has reached 386 market openings since the beginning of 2023.
The Eurasian Economic Union, composed of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan, represents a market of over 185 million inhabitants and a growing demand for animal-based pharmaceutical inputs. The opening of this market presents another opportunity to diversify the export portfolio and utilize livestock by-products, in line with the principles of a circular economy and sustainable agricultural production. Last year, Brazil exported over USD 1.4 billion in agricultural products to the EAEU, such as tobacco, leather, and live plants.
The result is the outcome of joint efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
