The Brazilian navy will deploy a new 888 Raptor, nicknamed “Mangangá”, to strengthen the battle against drug trafficking and pirate activity, and to patrol the Port of Santos and surrounding areas.
The 9m long vessel has a low draft with a top speed of 70kmph. Up to five soldiers can board the boat which has a facility to support a machine gun. The boat can reach areas of the port that were not previously patrolled, according to a Navy source.
Mangangá is the fourth vessel of this type deployed by the navy, and cost R$1.5m. It is hoped the vessel will also help in the battle against cross-border and environmental crimes.
