Norsul has secured an important technical recognition for its fleet. The chemical tanker Taruca has received a CAP 1 rating in all areas assessed during inspections conducted by Bureau Veritas, one of the world’s leading classification and certification societies. The organization is responsible for evaluating compliance, safety, quality of assets and operations across several industries, including shipping. The result was achieved after the vessel’s most recent drydocking and represents the highest level of excellence under the Condition Assessment Programme  (or CAP).

The certification attests to the vessel’s high standard of structural integrity, system reliability and maintenance quality, key parameters for the safe and efficient maritime transport of chemical cargoes.

With about 20 years of operation, Taruca has cargo storage capacity of around 21,500 cubic meters, distributed across 22 tanks, and transports ethanol, biodiesel, petroleum products and chemicals in general. The vessel improved on its previous assessment, when it received a CAP 2 rating, now reaching the program’s top tier. The result is particularly relevant for vessels with more than 15 years of service, as it highlights the ship’s robustness and the consistency of its maintenance practices over time.

“Achieving a CAP 1 rating with a vessel that has been operating for 20 years is concrete evidence that investing in people and in robust processes delivers results. Every professional involved in this achievement contributed to reaching this level of excellence. It is the collective commitment, the ability to overcome adversity and the relentless drive to meet the most demanding needs of our clients that brought us here. At Norsul, safety is not a statistic, it is a daily practice, built by people who value excellence,” said Aline Carvalho, Norsul’s director of people, management and fleet.

The Condition Assessment Programme is a detailed technical evaluation that verifies a vessel’s actual condition at the time of inspection. The process reviews structural aspects, systems and equipment, and is widely used as a benchmark in vetting processes, the audits carried out to assess vessel risk and operating standards.

The result is also considered a relevant benchmark by charterers, insurers and financial institutions in risk analysis and commercial decision-making. CAP ratings range from 1 to 4, with CAP 1 representing the highest level of technical performance and asset condition.

With the new certification, Taruca strengthens its standing in vetting processes and enhances its commercial competitiveness in the international chemical shipping market. The achievement also highlights the quality of the vessel’s recent drydocking and reinforces Norsul’s commitment to operational safety, fleet reliability and efficient asset management.
