Ocean Network Express (ONE) integrated the ONE Synergy into its South American service route last Friday, February 6, with its inaugural call at the Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) in Santos. The vessel, measuring 335 meters in length and 51 meters in width, has a capacity of approximately 13,932 TEUs and is now operational on the ONE SX1 service (East Coast South America Express 1).
The arrival of the ONE Synergy is part of a broader fleet renewal strategy by the shipping line, which plans to introduce 20 high-technology vessels into its global operations by the end of this year. According to the company, Latin American routes are a priority for the deployment of this new tonnage.
Technical Capabilities and Emissions Reduction
Constructed with specifications designed for future fuel transitions, the ONE Synergy is engineered to be methanol-ready and ammonia-ready. The vessel features a revised hull design intended to reduce fuel consumption during transit.
In port, the ship utilizes shore power technology, allowing connection to the onshore electrical grid to shut down auxiliary engines and eliminate local emissions while berthed. This technological capability aligns with ONE’s stated goal of reducing Scope 1 emissions intensity by 63% from a 2008 baseline, under its “ONE Mission: Zero Emission” agenda.
Logistics and Sustainability Tools
Artur Bezerra, President of ONE Brazil, positioned the vessel’s deployment as a practical application of the company’s investment in lower-carbon logistics. The vessel supports ONE’s existing sustainability services, including the “ONE LEAF+” program, which utilizes certified biofuels, and the “Eco Calculator,” a tool designed for shippers to measure and manage the carbon footprint of their cargo.
Following its operations in Santos, the ONE Synergy continued its route toward Singapore.
